Adventure #105: KJ & A Month Of Sundays (& Saturdays, Too!)
Dear You,
I was SO productive this weekend and I'm positively bursting to show off what I got done.
But I can't. It's a big commissioned project, that's sort of a surprise, so I have to keep zipped lips for the next month or so, and it's killing me not to be able to share!
But I CAN show off the art I did the OTHER Saturdays & Sundays this month.
A few weeks ago, my 2 & 1/2 year old niece, Kaylee, spent the weekend at my house, and we painted (okay, I just put the colors she picked out on the brush --- she did the rest):
Drew circles and houses:
Traced her feet, hands, and whole cute little self (which is much, much, much cuter than the outline would indicate!):
And did projects (that's what she calls any art that's not painting or coloring):
She seems to be developing quite the creative streak already. And not just when it comes to art!
The other night, she, my mom, my sister and I were at Red Lobster, and she got out two little packets of creamer and was pretending that one little packet of creamer was The Mommy and one little packet of creamer was The Daddy and was making up this little dialogue between them (one of them kept asking if they could go to Monkey Joe's tomorrow and the other would respond "SURE, we can!"). The funniest point of the whole show was when she dropped one of the creamers one the floor and look at us and said, "I want a new daddy!"
The following weekend, my friend Sheila and I got together to do some art. I may've mentioned it before, but we try to do this once a month.
This time, I'd had the idea that it would be fun to go to Hobby Lobby, and each spend $15.00 on whatever our little hearts desired and come back home and make something using ONLY the supplies we bought. Sheila only wound up spending $10.00, but come on, if I'm in craft supply store and have an allowance, you know I'm gonna spend every last dime! Neither of us finished our projects, which is sort of typical of our get-togethers, but it was fun (which is also typical of our get-togethers) AND she did my taxes for me, which I am so grateful for, if ever, until we are a hundred years old or so, she asks for any kind of favor (no matter how yucky, time-consuming, or undesirable), I'll do it without hesitation!
Here's my project:
You can't really tell much about it, but it began as a blank notebook. I started decorating the front and back cover, but I'm not 100% sure what I'll wind up doing with the rest of it (outside or inside) yet. (The little dots up and down the sides are fake bling.)
(Yesterday, I saw on Craftster, where they are having a challenge similar to what we did -- you spend a certain amount at the Dollar Store, and create a project using the supplies you bought! I won't be able to participate this go-round, due to the big commissioned project I mentioned at the beginning of this entry, but it sounds really cool. Projects are due April 1st through 5th and you can read all about it here, if you're interested.)
And now...it's time to get back to the mystery project!
KJ

I think Kaylee is going to be an artist, just like her aunt!
I wish you lived here and that we could get together every week and do art together! (it would probably be more using iTunes/watching MMC tapes/watching 90210/playing with punches and ink pads than actual art work, but sometimes, that's the best kind!) Miss you loads!
