Dear Jo (and Anyone Else Reading This),
Okay, in the adventure before my last adventure, I made some mention of an announcement and a painting inspired by a certain good girl.
The painting:
Meet Fawn & Ferris, the perfect couple.
Why are they they perfect couple? Well...he's a magician with only one trick -- pulling a rabbit out of a hat. But HIS rabbit refuses to participate in that trick. So he's really a magician with no tricks.
And SHE'S a princess with a frog that absolutely will not transform into a prince, no matter how many times she kisses him, no matter how much she begs, no matter how much she pleads. Somehow...the no-trick magician and the no-prince princess are just right for each other, but they just don't realize it -- yet.
Well, Miss Jo(hanna), I bet you're wondering how you inspired that one! Or maybe you remember making this comment (can I trade my frog in for a new one...I think he's broken ...& perhaps also broke! Bummer :D) on this post? Yes, the original idea for the painting was a little girl at a pet store, wanting to exchange her frog for one that was NOT broken and would properly morph into a handsome prince when smooched. However, I apparently don't paint pet store return & refund counters good, so after about six failed attempts at getting the sketch to even remotely resemble a pet store return & refund counter, I had to move on (though I may make a seventh attempt in the future!).
Ooh, and as for the announcement...wait a second...let me put on my Deep Manly Announcer Voice...wait another second, I don't HAVE a Deep Manly Announcer Voice, so bolding my font will have to do:
In addition to Etsy and my website and out of the trunk of my car, etc., I'm super duper excited to now be selling my art at Glitter & Grunge! Each month, there will be at least one piece for sale there that you won't be able to get anywhere else -- but this month, all four of my pieces (it's The Perfect Couple, the Besties original, All Packed Up & Nowhere to Go, and the little captain girl) for sale there are Glitter & Grunge exclusives!
If you've never stumbled upon Glitter & Grunge before, you should go check it out -- there are some amazing artists, including MiMissy Ballance, who is running the show, and I'm so happy to be a part of it.

In other froggy news, my dog Buddy has a little plastic swimming pool.
I know, I know, you're thinking: Uh, KJ, what the heck does that have to do with FROGS? And, probably also: Uh, why does your dog Buddy have a swimming pool?
The answer to your second question is: So he has somewhere to swim, duh. (And actually it's not just HIS pool, the other dreamy canines could use it, as well, they just don't ).
What does this have to do with frogs, though?
Well... a couple of weeks ago, there was a tidal wave in the swimming pool resulting from Buddy taking a dip -- and when the water came crashing over the sides, a poor little tadpole came whooshing out with it, onto the dry ground (which I'm guessing is not such a fun place to be for a tadpoley type).
So, I rescued the little guy, scooping him up with a leaf and returning him to his home, which I did not know at the time, was apparently also the home to about a dozen or so of his brothers and sisters.
Anyway, since the discovery, I've really enjoyed going out and watching the little tadpoles (there really were a BUNCH of them) flit around in the water (and dive down deep for cover when Buddy decided to join in on their flitting fun). THEN, THEN, the other day... I went out and I saw a little, teensy, tinsy thing hop out of the pool. And onto the ground. And hop, hop, hop some more! It was not a tadpole, my friends -- it was a FROG.
One of the tadpoles had turned into a full-fledged frog -- the littlest frog I've ever seen in my life (except maybe when we vacationed in Florida when I was a kid and there were always a hundreds and hundreds of miniature little frogs hopping around the condos where we stayed). I haul tailed inside and got the camera:
Now, you can't really see how tiny the baby!frog is in the above picture (which, I know, is not winning any photography contests anytime soon), so I made a handy, dandy diagram, which actually isn't very handy or dandy, but does show the size of the baby!frog in relation to the size of a sunflower seed...now if you don't know how big a sunflower seed is, I don't know what to tell you, but whoop, here it is:
I assume that all of the rest of the tadpoles have since joined their brother in full-fledged frogdom, because I haven't seen any flitting in the pool in a while. So either they've all changed and hopped away -- or Buddy swallowed them whole while using the swimming pool as a water fountain and they're now living in his belly.
ANYWAY, since this entry is already kind of about Miss Good Girl, let me just go right ahead and make it about her SOME MORE.
A while back, I was bloghopping (to keep with the frog theme) as I tend to do, because I love reading some blogs. MAN, I love reading blogs. I found myself at Johanna's blog. And I left a comment. The post I commented on happened to be part of a contest -- Jo (who IS a good girl indeed and a friendly one and a funny one, too!) picked a random number and the lucky person that left the comment the corresponded with the chosen number won a pair of her lovely earrings!
And the lucky person was ME!
Aren't they lovely? (All of her jewelry is!)
And here's a picture of Bud just in case you wanted to put a face with a name. This was obviously taken in the morning, before he had the time to get out the Clearasil and do the whole face-scrubbing thing:
Ribbit ribbit!
KJ
P.S. This was supposed to be a brief post. Le sigh...you can take the girl out of the words but you can't keep the words in the girl or however that saying goes. I will never be a short-winded giraffe.
Do you know that you are my most favorite person in the whole wide world! ...apparently I'm inspiring you ???? um...my frog was indeed broke (both senses of the word!) & he has hopped away for good ! Hooray :D ....love the diagram ....& you just happened to have a sunflower seed there :D....ohhhhh, can that pic be me & my new secret fiance' ???
