Dear You,
(This is a lengthy post, but please scroll all the way to the end -- there's a contest! Whoo! And I also ask a favor. But the favor has nothing to do with the contest.)
A couple of weeks ago, I had out my sketchbook and drew a little version of Alice (of Wonderland fame).
I really just wanted to sit down and draw girls with really cute, detailed outfits!
Anyway, I hated Alice. Hated it. Wanted to ball it up and toss it in the trash. But my mom loved it, so instead, I decided to scan it in to the computer and see what I could do in Paint Shop Pro.
I wound up coloring her digitally and my hate did a quick about-face into love! So, I did The Queen of Hearts, The White Rabbit and The Mad Hatter to join her.
And they made up a series I call The Wonderland Interpretations.
But something kept nagging at me. Something with a grin and a meow.
Yeah. I needed the Cheshire Cat.
So The Wonderland Interpretations went from a quartet to a quintet.
I must admit The Queen of Hearts is my favorite. Her skirt is made of playing cards! (And that wasn't pre-planned -- totally serendipitous.) Though I will never give up canvas and acrylics entirely, right now, I am totally enamored with working in pencil and digital color. My brain is buzzing with ideas! These will be up in my shop in a l'il while and you will be able to see close-ups of their faces over there for a bit more detail.
I'm going to offer them as individual 8.5" x 11" prints, but also, I think as a set of 5" x 7"s.
**** CONTEST ALERT ****
Speaking of a set of 5" x 7"s...want to win a set of all five prints?
Here's how!:
Comment on this post telling me which one is your favorite and you'll be entered!
To earn extra entries, you can also tweet about the contest, blog about it, mention it on Facebook, etc. -- just include the link to this Adventure wherever you post about it - and then comment again letting me know where you gave your shout out.
I'll draw a winner on Saturday.
****FAVOR ALERT****
So. It so happens that my Skater Girl painting from the Snowflake Lake Collection has made it into the Etsy Voter. They had open nominations and then chose 48 items somehow related to the Winter Olympics. The top 5 vote-getters make will appear on the homepage Friday (which is kinda huge!). I am currently in 8th place. You can only vote once but if you have an Etsy account and wouldn't mind taking a minute to pop over and vote for me (y'know, if I'm your favorite and all), I would really, really, really appreciate it. It's a really tight race right now between the top 10 or so. Thanks SO much!
Talk to you soon,
P.S. Alice didn't start out as a blonde:

Update: Thanks all of you who've replied already for your sweet words! I'll keep accepting entries until Saturday morning. The Wonderland Interpretations are now in the shop! And since blue-haired Alice has gotten some love from you guys, I'm making her available, as well as the blonde version! Thanks again - KJ
OKAY...you know i love them all, but i think I am in love with the white rabbit. adorable! And, i voted for you on etsy. Good luck! I think Alice rocked with the blue hair too:)

Oh, I love them all! But I have to agree with you about the Queen of Hearts, she's brilliant! And I have already voted for you in the Voter a couple of days ago. Good luck! :)

Wow! These are super cute! My favourite is Alice simply because her smile is the biggest and of course I loved her dress. :)
I'll spread the word about this adventure on my Facebook page, seeing as its reach is the greatest, compared to Twitter and my Blog.
Great work, Kathy. :)
